Today is October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Happy feast day! All across the Diocese of Lansing school students have embraced Bishop Earl Boyea’s challenge to give alms, fast and pray the Holy Rosary in response to Proposal 3 which seeks to insert a right to abortion-to-birth, and more, into the Constitution of the State of Michigan. That includes the students at Father Gabriel Richard School in Ann Arbor.
“I think it’s really important, especially now with all spiritual warfare going on and all the things happening in the world, to get together as a faith community and pray the Rosary,” said Junior student, Joseph Plant.
The Father Gabriel Richard students reacted with enthusiasm to a recent pastoral letter issued by Bishop Boyea which encouraged the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary as part of a 54-Day Novena aimed at defeating Proposal 3.
“We fight like heaven and our weapons aren’t violence, our weapons aren’t vulgar language, our weapons are prayer, fasting and almsgiving and, in that, we encounter the Lord and, in that, I want the students to encounter the Lord,” said Father Ryan Riley, School Chaplain.
“I can’t vote and I think for some people that’s a way of being, like, ‘well, I can’t do anything so I’m not going to try’,” said Sophomore student, Grace Thompson, “but I think prayer, more than anything else, is very important and when we do that, it actually affects things more than we realize.”
