Watch this great short video as Father Tim Nelson of Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Jackson explains how your giving to the Diocese of Lansing’s Diocesan Services Appeal helps ensure that no child in his socially and ethnically diverse downtown parish is denied a Catholic education because of financial need.
“As long as there’s an empty seat in this school, any child who wants a Catholic education will not be denied for financial reasons,” says Father Nelson.
By the grace of God, this is something Saint Mary has been able to achieve since Father Nelson took over as pastor in 2011. That’s thanks to diocesan scholarships, generous parish tithing, personal outreach, and help from the Diocese of Lansing’s Department of Education which is funded by the Diocesan Services Appeal or DSA.
“The DSA provides educational supplemental help for teachers and guidance for our development or future development,” adds Father Nelson, “The whole idea is that everybody contributes to programs that no one parish could do alone. We’re all in this same boat. We’re all in the Church.”
It is your gift to the Diocesan Services Appeal that supports Catholic education throughout the Diocese of Lansing. That’s just one example, drawn from dozens of ministries and services, that benefit from the annual appeal.
If you are in a position to do so, please prayerfully consider a DSA gift today. You make the many good works of our Catholic Church possible. Thank you! God bless you!
