Watch: A Principal’s Prayer of Thanksgiving | Saint John the Evangelist School celebrates 75 years

Happy 75th anniversary to Saint John the Evangelist School in Fenton. Ad multos annos. To mark this month’s very special milestone, the school community gathered to give thanks to Almighty God at Holy Mass on September 12.

“I am praying that we continue to lay the foundation for the next 75 years, allowing God to continue to move, and the Holy Spirit to lead, and to direct us, so that my grandchildren can hopefully attend this school one day too,” said principal Andrew Schmit, pictured above, in his prayer of thanksgiving.

The principal celebrant of the Mass was Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing. Concelebrating were parish pastor, Father Robert Copeland, and former pastor, Father David Harvey.

Saint John’s opened its door to students on September 6, 1950, with four sisters from the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) order teaching 180 students. Saint John now has 340 students and, in fact, last year the school recorded the highest percentage increase in enrollment of any school within the Diocese of Lansing.
