Hebrews 5:1-10
Psalms 110:1-4
Mark 2:18-22
Hebrews 5:1-10
(1) For every high priest, being taken from among men, is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. (2) The high priest can deal gently with those who are ignorant and going astray, because he himself is also surrounded with weakness. (3) Because of this, he must offer sacrifices for sins for the people, as well as for himself. (4) Nobody takes this honor on himself, but he is called by God, just like Aaron was. (5) So also Christ didn’t glorify himself to be made a high priest, but it was he who said to him, “You are my Son. Today I have become your father.” (6) As he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.” (7) He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear, (8) though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered. (9) Having been made perfect, he became to all of those who obey him the author of eternal salvation, (10) named by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
Psalms 110:1-4
(1) Yahweh says to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet.” (2) Yahweh will send out the rod of your strength out of Zion. Rule among your enemies. (3) Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power, in holy array. Out of the womb of the morning, you have the dew of your youth. (4) Yahweh has sworn, and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”
Mark 2:18-22
(18) John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and asked him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don’t fast?” (19) Jesus said to them, “Can the groomsmen fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they can’t fast. (20) But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then will they fast in that day. (21) No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, or else the patch shrinks and the new tears away from the old, and a worse hole is made. (22) No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and the wine pours out, and the skins will be destroyed; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins.”
