Welcome to St. Mary’s Youth Ministry! Our vision is to bring the youth into a deepening relationship with Jesus Christ through the sacrament of Confirmation, prayer, charity, service and by showing them how their faith relates to their daily lives. Keeping Jesus Christ as the center of our lives, we are able to discern our vocation and are inspired to share our gifts, energy, and enthusiasm in the mission of the Church.
The goals of Youth Ministry are:
*To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today
*To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community
*To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
9th Grade Confirmation Prep
Please check Calendars menu for Confirmation Schedule
Our Confirmation prep is a two year program. In the second year, Confirmation candidates will meet on Sunday evenings from September through April to prepare for the Sacrament with candidates from Saints Charles & Helena Parish in Clio and St. Frances Xavier Parish in Otisville. The sessions run from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. utilizing the Dynamic Catholic’s Decision Point Confirmation program. For the 2018-2019 year, preparation sessions will be held at Ss. Charles & Helena Parish Hall followed by youth ministry activities until 8 p.m. All Confirmation candidates are highly encouraged to participate in youth ministry along with their preparation sessions. Confirmation will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Parish in Flint in May of 2019.
We meet together with youth from St. Mary, St. Francis Xavier, and Ss. Charles & Helena on Sunday evenings from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Ss. Charles & Helena Parish Hall, 230 E. Vienna Road, Clio, unless otherwise noted.
Youth Group is a place of community, support, and faith. We come together to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Each of us has gifts and talents that we share with the group in praising God while building lasting relationships with youth from other schools and communities.
As a baptized member of the Church, Jesus Christ calls us to follow in his footsteps and make a difference in the world today. You can make a difference! Become an active member of your Youth Group.
Events & Retreats
Diocesan Youth Jamboree
We gather with youth from all over the diocese on the first Sunday of November at the Lansing Center to a themed day-long event. The day includes keynote speakers, dynamic workshops, Reconciliation, Adoration, Mass with Bishop Boyea, and a Fun Fest.
Each spring we spend a weekend together at a retreat center with youth from other parishes from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. The weekend includes growing and sharing in our faith, fun-filled activities, and building lasting friendships. Mass is celebrated at the end of the retreat and families are welcome to join us at Mass.
Diocesan Youth Leadership Camp (DYLC) is held at Bethany House each year in June. Any young person active in youth ministry is encouraged to apply with a recommendation from their youth minister. It provides the tools of leadership training and skill development, in a Christian community, necessary for effective leadership in a youth ministry program.
Diocesan Cedar Point Trip
At the end of the academic year, we gather with local parishes and hop on a charter bus to spend the day on roller coasters, amusement rides, and watching entertaining shows with friends from throughout the diocese. Families and friends are welcome to attend this event.
